We define one being Christian as affirming that Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God, and that only through Him and by following His teachings can we be saved from death and sin.
Christianity is an umbrella that encompasses a broad range of denominations and faith groups. While many theological differences exist among Christians, most hold these beliefs below in common.
God, our Heavenly Father, is the Supreme Being in whom we believe, whom we worship, and to whom we pray. He is the ultimate Creator, Ruler, and Preserver of all things. He is perfect, has all power, and knows all things. Our Father in Heaven wants us to dwell with Him eternally. In order to make this possible, He prepared the plan of salvation. He sent His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to loose the bands of death and atone for the sins of the world. This sacrifice is the greatest expression of our Father’s love for us.
Numbers 16:22; Malachi 2:10; Matthew 5:48; John 3:16; 1 John 3:20; Ephesians 4:6
Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, our Redeemer, and the Son of God. During His mortal ministry, He healed the sick, caused the blind to see, and raised the dead. He taught eternal truths and messages of peace and goodwill, and He entreated all to follow His example. Jesus suffered and was crucified for the sins of the world, giving each of God’s children the gift of repentance and forgiveness. Only by His mercy and grace can anyone be saved. His subsequent Resurrection prepared the way for every person to overcome physical death as well.
In the future, Jesus Christ will return to reign on earth in peace for a thousand years. He will be our Lord forever.
Isaiah 49:26; John 1:1-18; John 14:6; Acts 1:11; 1 Timothy 2:5
Often referred to as the Spirit, the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of the Lord, or the Comforter, he is a personage that works in perfect unity with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, fulfilling several roles to help us live righteously and receive the blessings of the gospel. He witnesses of the Father and the Son and reveals and teaches the truth of all things. We can receive a sure testimony of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ only by the power of the Holy Ghost. His communication to our spirit carries far more certainty than any communication we can receive through our natural senses. As we strive to stay on the path that leads to eternal life, the Holy Ghost can guide us in our decisions and protect us from physical and spiritual danger.
John 14:26; Acts 2:38; 1 Corinthians 12:3; Ephesians 1:13
The Bible is the word of God. It is a witness for God and Jesus Christ. The Bible is divided into two parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is a sacred record of God’s dealings with His covenant people in the Holy Land. It includes the teachings of such prophets as Moses, Joshua, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Daniel. The New Testament records the birth, mortal ministry, and Atonement of the Savior. It concludes with the ministry of the Savior’s disciples. We can receive strength, comfort, and guidance from the biblical accounts of God’s dealings with His people.
